“To be a monster is to be a hybrid signal, a lighthouse: both shelter and warning at once.” ― Ocean Vuong, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
About Me
An Pham is a lesbian artist living and working in New York City. They were born in Saigon, Vietnam in June of 1999 (Gemini) and immigrated to Colorado, US in 2008 where they spent the next 8 years. They graduated from Wesleyan University in 2021 with a dual degree in Studio Art (with a concentration in Drawing) and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Upon graduation, they took a job at BOFFO, an artist residency in Fire Island Pines (yes, the gay part) as an associate producer and helped oversee the running of the residency. They can write a book about this experience. Since then, they have held administrative positions at galleries in New York and travelled with their wonderful, amazing girlfriend throughout Italy and Thailand. They hope to one day return to Vietnam to discover the country's current enigmatic queer life, since attitudes toward queerness in Vietnam have been quickly changing in order to reflect the culture's vast and diverse experiences of joy. Aside from visual arts, An is also a writer and poet. To read some of their work, contact them directly at [email protected]
"I would like to thank the following people for changing my life by allowing me to find shelter in their work: Ocean Vuong, Frank O'Hara, Joan Semmel, Joan Didion, Barbara Hammer, Caroline Polachek, Jose Munoz, TM Davy, and Orville Peck."
